What is a normal temperature?
Human temperature varies from individual to individual. Commonly 98.6°F is deemed the standard temperature for a human using an internal oral or rectal measurement. "Although most people consider 98.6 F (37 C) normal, your body temperature can vary by a degree or more — from about 97 F (36.1 C) to 99 F (37.2 C) — and still be considered normal," as defined by the Mayo Clinic.
What is considered a low grade fever?
"CDC considers a person to have a fever when he or she has a measured temperature of 100.4° F (38° C) or greater, or feels warm to the touch, or gives a history of feeling feverish." - Definitions of Symptoms for Reportable Illnesses by the CDC.
What is considered a fever?
According to the Mayo Clinic, the temperatures that indicate fever as a symptom are internal readings of:
For Adults: 103 F (39.4 C)
For Children:
- Younger than age 3 months : 100.4 F (38 C) or higher.
- Between ages 3 and 6 months : 102 F (38.9 C) or higher.
- Between ages 6 and 24 months : 102 F (38.9 C) or higher.
- Ages 24 Months And Above: 102 F (38.9C) or higher.
When using a forehead measurement, it is expected to be lower, anywhere from 0.5°F to 1°F lower as it is an external reading. Furthermore, forehead temperature reduces with age, the older an individual the lower the forehead temperature is expected to be. Therefore if it recommended to use these devices as a strong indicator of current temperature, learn your own normal reading that way you can identify if a result is outside of your normal temperature.
Nearly all MOBI thermometers have the ability to real an internal termperature via the ear. As with any thermometer, the closer to the source of the temperature, the more accurate the reading. Our MOBI Oral Thermometer is the most accurate thermometer we offer as it reads closest to the source of body temperature.
Note: MOBI Thermometers are not a replacement for a trained medical professional. If you are unsure concerning the medical safety of an individual, seek medical help. Use your best judgment and seek a medical professional if temperatures indicate a potential medical problem.
