What is a GHz? Why do I need it?
Gigahertz (GHz or GHz for short) is a radio signal meant to send and receive data. This type of connection is the basis for all WiFi networks- your router is the device that encodes (sends) and decodes (listens and receives) this signal.
All MobiCams and MOBI Smart devices use this type of signal to relay information.
What is the difference between 2.4ghz and 5ghz?
2.4ghz was the band that was initially used for all WiFi connections. Baby monitors, wireless keyboards, and many other devices rely on this connection to be stable. While 2.4ghz isn't as fast as 5ghz, it's a lower wavelength and travels much farther than a 5ghz connection. Most devices you will connect through WiFi will be looking to use 2.4ghz as they are designed for long distances.
What is my WiFi? 2.4ghz or 5ghz?
Both! Nearly all wireless networks (also called WiFis) are dual-band (meaning both 2.4ghz and 5ghz). Both bands are included in any internet service package. However, MobiCam and MOBI Smart devices need a signal that is only 2.4ghz to function.
Unless there has been a previous reason to set up specific connections for your home WiFi network, most people will have a combined WiFi connection of both 2.4ghz and 5ghz. These are both types of communication bands used for the transmission of data. Generally speaking, your Internet Service Provider (or ISP) will combine these signals to be efficient and make their setup process much simpler for you.
How do I enable my 2.4ghz connection?
The router you were provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) provides a preconfigured WiFi network that is dual-band. Please get in touch with your ISP's technical support, and state "I am setting up an IP camera, and I need a 2.4ghz connection." They should be able to set up the second network for you for free.
Additionally, you can also go to the back of your router to find information about how to access your Admin Settings. Usually, you have to type in an I.P. address into your phone or computer browser, log in with the security key found on the same section where you found your I.P. login, and just switch your Guest 2.4 Wi-Fi from OFF to On. Then either wait for 10 minutes or restart your router and both your 2.4G & 5G signals should now be active.
